The title track from the “Not of this Earth” album is a perfect example for the Pitch Axis concept at work.
In this case the note “E” serves as the Pitch Axis root.
The whole tune, except for a measly 2 bar appearance of the V chord, consists of the following 4 measure Pitch Axis progression forming the harmonic backbone:
Sound
Use a highly compressed clean sound with chorusing to create a shimmering, atmospheric mood.
Tip!
Notice (double check with the tablature) how you actually are only moving the same suspended chord shape around one half step at a time.
Small physical movement – yet quite a difference in the overall sound and feel.
Isn't it great to see a highly theoretical, “brainy” concept like the Pitch Axis system getting applied in a cool tune in such a refreshingly simple, practical way?
You just gotta love this stuff.
Now why didn't I come up with this???
(Please, no answers. That was a strictly rhetorical question) ;-)
